Google Activity Viewer
Google's My Activity page shows your activity a day at a time and cannot export it. The complete record is in your Google Takeout export, split into one set of files per product. This page lists each activity export, with a dedicated guide for how to get it and what it contains.
Every activity export, one guide each
- Search history. Every query you typed into Google while signed in, in My Activity/Search/MyActivity.json.
- YouTube history. Every video watched while signed in, plus your YouTube searches, in watch-history.json.
- Chrome history. Every page visited in Chrome, exported only if Chrome sync is on.
- Location History. The places and countries your phone reported, for accounts that still hold it.
- Google Photos. Your library by year and by place, read from the metadata beside each photo.
- Gmail. Your mailbox as an MBOX file, and how many emails it holds.
Android and app activity, Maps searches and other products each have their own folder under My Activity in the ZIP, with the same record shape: a product name, a title, a link and a time. For how those files are built, see Google Takeout JSON files.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between My Activity and Google Takeout?
My Activity at myactivity.google.com is where you browse and delete recent activity, a day at a time. Google Takeout is the export: it gives you the complete stored record as files in a ZIP. Takeout is the only way to see all of it at once.
How long does Google keep my activity?
For accounts created since June 2020, auto-delete defaults to 18 months for Web & App Activity and 36 months for YouTube History. Timeline (formerly Location History) defaults to 3 months since its 2024 move to on-device storage. Older accounts, or accounts that switched auto-delete off, can have records going back a decade or more. Defaults checked October 2026. Reading your export shows what is actually stored regardless of policy.
Should I export activity as HTML or JSON?
JSON. In Takeout, open Multiple formats and set Activity records, and YouTube History, to JSON. HTML is readable in a browser but hard to count; JSON lets TakeoutReader work out totals, months and years.
Is my activity uploaded when I read it with TakeoutReader?
No. The ZIP is read by JavaScript in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab while the report builds.
